You may be concerned by the publication of an Associated Press article regarding the CPSC government warning on baby slings and the Consumers Union’s concerns about “bag-style” slings. Maya Wrap has never manufactured a "bag-style" baby sling. Maya Wrap takes the safety of babies in slings very seriously. When worn correctly, we believe that babies are safe in Maya Wrap baby slings as well as many other brands.
There is currently no standard in the United States for baby slings. Maya Wrap and several other baby sling companies have pushed for the development of a standard. Because of our efforts a standard is now in development.
Susan Gmeiner, the president of Maya Wrap, chairs the task force on positioning in baby slings. She is working with consultants and the task force to develop this portion of the standard.
Safety always has been and always will be a primary concern at Maya Wrap.
Maya Wrap
• Teaches proper positioning
• Recently changed our instructions to encourage the tummy to tummy position due to the fact that it is easier to learn for the first time baby wearer.
• Was the first ring sling company to recommend that baby slings not be used for babies under 8 pounds without first seeking the advice of a professional.
We value your support and encouragement of this ancient and beneficial practice of babywearing. Please contact us with any further questions.
