Woven Wrap - Uncaged

Details

Uncaged is Maya Wrap's first wrap-style baby carrier. Made with 100% merino wool on the weft and 100% cotton on the warp, Uncaged promises the perfect, snuggly hold for your little one. Forget the scratchy qualities of grandma's knit sweaters; this merino wrap is blankety and gets softer with each wear. Working with skilled designers, Uncaged is machine loomed and overseen by experienced weavers.  Uncaged is woven in the United States by a small, family-owned textile mill. We paid close attention to the little details, which means wearers experience a truly superior wrap that will last for years.

Uncaged offers the perfect amount of grip and floof while being perfect for babies weighing at least 8 lbs. through toddlers weighing up to 45 lbs.  Uncaged is a substantial wrap, and we believe it is best used with babies past the newborn phase and older children.  Post wash, Uncaged is 72 cm wide and 360 g/m2.  Woven in four rich and vibrant colorways - Jade (green), Navy (blue), Shale (blue/gray), and Elderberry (lilac/pink) - we think there's a color to match a variety of palettes.

Sold in loom-state, each wrap is flat with no contouring.  Once washed, the differential shrinkage between the wool and cotton adds a unique, dimensional quality to the fabric.

The playful and quirky aviary pattern reminds us of times long since passed; its inspiration comes the famous Breakfast at Tiffany's quote, "I don't want to put you in a cage, I want to love you!"  In keeping with the theatrical masterpiece, Uncaged evokes feelings of sophistication juxtaposed against whimsy.

With a tapered tail that differs from other wraps in the market, you'll be able to tie and untie your wrap with ease.  Seams are serged and then folded and hemmed, which significantly diminishes any chances of fraying.  You can expect standard weaving slubs in Uncaged.

Wool requires special hand washing care, but is a delight to wear in the cooler and cold months, and the post-wash texture of Uncaged is simply amazing.

Please note:  the images we display have the most accurate color possible, but due to differences in computer monitors and resolution, there might be slight variations in color between the actual product and your screen.

I don't own this one but our local babywearing group is lucky enough to have one in our library. It was this 1st wrap I had ever tired (I am not a wrapper) but this wrap was easy to learn on. It was conformable for both me and my little guy. If I was going to own a wrap this would be the wrap I would buy.

I got to try out this wrap at my local BWI chapter. Once I got my daughter in the wrap she was immediately asleep. It really helped me as a beginner babywear that the wrap was not stretchy wrap like the boba wrap I used when my daughter was little. This wrap had a nice sturdiness to it and was also buttery soft.

I received this as a gift and I have to say this is the softess and most comfortable wrap I have ever had. It is amazingly soft and comfortable for both mommy/daddy and baby. It is very breathable and so baby doesn't get too hot.

If you find yourself wishing you could have that same comfy fabric of the ring sling, but arent crazy about one shoulder carries, this is a great option for you! The length of the wrap help to create many different carries to improve your comfort with your baby. This does come at a bit of a higher price point, but definitely worth the investment!

Talk about softness, bounce, and cush! This wooly wrap is thick, and has the perfect amount of grip and glide. In hand, it is so super soft, floppy after the first (handwash), and zero prickle. This wool wrap does not feel "wooly." I would love one of each color- right now I have Navy :)

I'll be honest that when I saw the price point and the blend of maya wraps very first wrap I was slightly skeptical. In an industry that has exploded, maya wrap ring slings are super well know but wraps are a whole new ball game of competition. After taking the leap on not only the first wrap of a great company but also my first wool (eek, scary!) I have to say that I was stunned. It's incredibly cushy, the texture is so much fun with plenty of glide but just enough grip from the design to make the passes really stay when they need to. The wool makes this wrap super special though. It's cushy and soft like a cloud and there is no scratch what-so-ever. The wool also provides this amazing bounce an the weave is airy enough that although what I would consider a thick wrap you can literally feel the air blowing through it as you hold your baby close. I'm not one to baby my wraps and this wrap has stood up to the beating of two small children and even contained them both at the same time as a tandem wrap. I love love love it. And you can't go wrong with any of the colors.

While I have not tried this particular wrap, I have tried a few Maya wraps in my babywearing journey, but none of which I have had the pleasure to own. I have a very loving babywearing community and some like-minded mamas who have allowed me to try out their Maya wraps, and one was lent to me to begin my babywearing journey. I fell in love and researched as much as I could. I would love to go back to my roots of Maya wraps with #2 and have one of my own to snuggle and pass on to my children when they have children of their own. Maya is one of the very few brands I suggest to mothers who are new to babywearing - comfort, quality, and value all in one!

I had the luxury of testing one of these beauties for a few weeks and was delighted with the feel of this wrap! It broke in very quickly and I was able to mold my little squish into the perfect FWCC immediately. The cotton/wool blend gave this wrap the perfect balance of stretch and support. I'm looking forward to continuing to experiment with different carries with this wrap!

  21. Stunning and cushy! review by Sarah on 7/7/2015

I am so impressed with this wrap! The quality is amazing. There is absolutely NO itchy, scratchy, grandma's-old-sweater feeling to this merino. While it feels pretty stiff in loom state, a bath and a cool iron go a long way towards making Uncaged soft and cushy.

Uncaged is thick and quite wide, but it has great stretch and bounce, so while it is perfect for bigger kids, it hugs small babies really well too. I just fold the top rail down a bit in a FWCC and it is perfect.

I can't wait to see Maya Wrap's next woven release. Uncaged has set the bar really high. I just can't get over the quality. It's never leaving!

Lightly Padded and ComfortFit Ring Slings, Jacquard Woven Ring Slings
All of our handloomed and jacquard products are machine washable in cold water.  Washing machines with agitators should be avoided because they can stretch and twist the wrap.

Do not wring your wrap or ring sling out; instead, grab pieces and squeeze gently.

Gentle detergents are best and avoid detergents with color catchers.

For stains, you can try soaking in cold water with a little bit of Borax or other laundry boosting product dissolved in the water.  Do NOT scrub the stain.

Stain removers, such as Shout or Oxy Clean, can yield different, and sometimes unwanted, results.  If you have a stubborn stain, we suggest testing a small amount on an inconspicuous place of your wrap before using on a stain.  Use these types of products judiciously and only after you've tested.

Do NOT use bleach.

Fabric  softener is not recommended for ring slings.  The fabric grips the rings better if it is not used.

Line drying is recommended to avoid shrinkage.  Hang your wrap or ring sling in a fashion that evenly supports the weight of the material to avoid stretching.  Alternatively, you can also lay it on a towel to dry.

Wool and wool blended wraps and ring slings
Don't fear the wool!  It's easy to care for.  Simply place 1/2 cup of white vinegar in about 4" of cold water in your bathtub.   Submerge your wrap or ring sling in the water - vinegar mixture and swoosh around a little with your hand.  Let sit for 20 minutes.

Drain the water - vinegar mixture and rinse out the wrap by holding it under the faucet.  Do not wring or twist it.

Fill the tub up, again, with 4" of water only.  Let your wrap or ring sling sit for 20 minutes.

Drain the tub and squeeze the wrap to remove excess water.  Do not wring or twist it.

Line drying is recommended to avoid shrinkage.  Hang your wrap or ring sling in a fashion that evenly supports the weight of the material to avoid stretching.  Alternatively, you can also lay it on a towel to dry.

Got wrinkles?
Use a cool iron to get rid of unsightly wrinkles in your ring sling or wrap.  Be sure to follow guidelines based upon the type of fabric and the temperature of the iron.  Most specifically, wool requires a very cool setting.

Throw and go!
Maya Wrap products travel well.  They can be tossed in a diaper bag or purse and aren't bulky like other carrier types.  Feel free to use the bag you received your original Maya Wrap in for storage purposes, though most of our customers use it so often they stash it in their car or a diaper bag for easy access.
